On Friday, April 23rd, our CFIO, Orvie Bowman, passed away after being involved in a fatal car crash while cycling in his hometown of Elmira, Ontario. He leaves behind his wife, Heather and their three children.

Orvie joined MEDA in March 2020 and since his onboarding, he quickly established himself as a highly skilled, hardworking, and enthusiastic member of the MEDA team. In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Orvie played a leading role in forming the plan that would shape and shepherd the organization through this challenging time. Throughout his tenure with MEDA, Orvie’s expertise among his colleagues was well known: he brought over twenty years of experience in the financial services and leadership fields. As MEDA’s CFIO, he provided strategic leadership to achieve MEDA’s financial, investment, and legal goals. Before MEDA, he worked in a variety of senior leadership roles, including Chief Financial and Investment Officer, Assistant Vice President, and Director of Financial Reporting.

In addition to Orvie’s professional achievements, he was active in the community and participated on several boards. Orvie was deeply involved in his faith community as a member at Woodside Bible Fellowship, where he also volunteered as the church treasurer.

As our President and CEO, Dr. Dorothy Nyambi notes, Orvie’s passing is a devastating loss to our organization and our community.

“Orvie was the first person I hired in my role as CEO and it was clear from the beginning that he was a perfect fit. Orvie was incredibly bright and disciplined as our CFIO, and we will miss his warmth, sense of humor, quick wit, and caring nature. His passion for helping others made him an invaluable part of our MEDA family. The entire MEDA family mourns the loss of a colleague, a family man, and our friend,”

Dr. Nyambi said

We have lost an important member of our community and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Orvie’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
