Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti. On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the small island nation, killing over 2,000 people and injuring more than 12,000. The devastation from the quake and the subsequent category 5 hurricane that followed has left thousands without homes, medical supplies, or water.
MEDA has worked in Haiti intermittently since 2010 to assist small businesses and agricultural producers with access to financial services and markets. In 2020, MEDA returned to Haiti with the ATTEINDRE project to provide targeted support for 30,000 micro, small and medium sized enterprises to become profitable enterprises, enabling them to grow, become more competitive, and generate more jobs across the country.
In addition, the Government of Canada has announced that it will match all donations made by individual Canadians to the Humanitarian Coalition between August 16, 2021 and September 3, 2021, to a maximum of $2M.
