MEDA donors #Move4MEDA across North America

#Move4MEDA fundraising event

With the COVID-19 pandemic making traditional summer gatherings and fundraisers impossible, five groups of our MEDA donors across North America still wanted to have an impact on making the world a better place. So, they got creative.

During August 14 – 22, MEDA Network hub members in Leamington and Waterloo, Canada, and Colorado, Delaware Valley and Lancaster in the U.S. brainstormed the MEDA move-a-thon, a fundraiser to raise funds and visibility for MEDA projects around the world. Our Leamington Hub initiated the idea to do a socially distanced move-a-thon and a number of hubs quickly jumped on board, with diverse initiatives and activities to engage their communities. Some participants from the Waterloo area hiked 9km of The Kissing Bridge Trail in Elmira, and dozens gathered in Delaware Valley for a creative “I Spy” walk in the woods. It was wonderful to connect again in this socially distanced way!

During the one week Move-a-thon, supporters participated in an activity of their preference, posted photos online and then donated to MEDA’s work. Over $70,000 was raised through this amazing initiative!!  The funds generated will impact projects in Ukraine, Myanmar, Tanzania, Jordan, and MEDA’s work around the globe.

Though separate and socially-distanced, members across these five regions “moved” in a way that worked for them – be it on the trails, the treadmill, or the trampoline – capturing their movement and sharing it via social media to acknowledge their support for entrepreneurs around the world.

In a time where we can easily feel disconnected and further from our loved ones and the causes we care about, the hubs came together and demonstrated commitment, passion, and sense of global community. We are grateful to all who participated and to all supporters who enable us to create business solutions to poverty throughout the world!  Here are just a few of the photos. Take a look at MEDA’s #move4meda on Facebook to see many more fun photos!
