Lead Pastor at Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship in Coquitlam, BC
Biblical Mentors for Marketplace Ministry
Dave Esau has been pastoring in the Vancouver area since 1992 and is currently the lead pastor at Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship in Coquitlam, BC. Dave grew up on a mixed farm in Manitoba and worked his way through university and college as a carpenter, discovering marketplace mentors on the job, in the church, and in college who taught and modelled business as a calling.
Dave has been an avid reader of The Marketplace for decades, finding it great fodder for many sermon illustrations and resources on how to help ordinary people mix faith and work. Dave and his wife Elaine have three adult children. Dave has an MDiv from Regent College in Vancouver.
The main context in which most believers are called to put their faith to work is not the church but the marketplace. But how can we learn to do this? One great way the Bible inspires and equips us to put our faith to work is through its vast array of marketplace mentors, especially a bi-vocational and bi-locational MEDA-type bridge-builder named Nehemiah. His heartfelt and hands-on responses to the ongoing refugee crisis in his day are as enlightening as they are inspiring. So we plan to follow this marketplace mentor around from his place of worship to his places of work in the boardroom and on the construction site. We'll be taking note of how he put his faith to work both locally as a trusted employee and globally as a trusted boss. Come learn from a believer who used his God-given assets to create holistic solutions to the poverty crisis in his day.
