Kindred Credit Union to donate up to $20,000 in support of women entrepreneurs
Sponsorship to match local giving group’s contribution to MEDA’s international work
Waterloo, ON, February 7, 2019 –
Kindred Credit Union (Kindred) is pleased to announce its partnership with Women Empowering Women (WEW), a local giving group supported by a network hub that works to contribute funding to Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA). Kindred has committed to matching donations, up to $20,000, raised through WEW events. MEDA would like to express its gratitude for Kindred’s generous support.
Jennifer Shaw, Kindred’s Community Engagement Specialist, announced the donation at a WEW event on February 7, 2019 in Kitchener.
Mary Ann Mooney, Kindred’s Chief, Member Experience and Brand Integrity shared that, “Empowering women to rise above social and cultural barriers toward improved livelihoods is such a strong fit with Kindred’s purpose which in part is to inspire peaceful, just, and prosperous communities. I’m excited to see how this partnership will help transform the lives of women and their communities around the world.”
Funds raised at WEW events in 2019, in addition to Kindred’s matching donation, will further MEDA’s work to support women entrepreneurs in developing regions around the world. By offering financial support, technical expertise, and access to markets, MEDA provides innovative business solutions to alleviate poverty, including blending public and private capital in support of international development and mentoring sustainable economic development.
“This International Development Week in Canada, we are tremendously proud to receive this level of commitment from Kindred Credit Union alongside the Women Empowering Women’s group here in Waterloo Region,” said Dr. Dorothy Nyambi, president and CEO of MEDA. “It is innovative partnerships from local leaders like this that further MEDA’s impact on women entrepreneurs in developing regions around the world, helping them reach their potential.”
“Like the team at MEDA, the people who attend our Women Empowering Women giving group don’t just see the need, they are committed to doing something about it,” said Nancy Mann, WEW Committee Chair. For example, WEW members are planning a mother-daughter event on May 2 at 50 Kent Ave in Kitchener. They are very motivated to maximize Kindred’s donation in 2019!
Mann adds, “Together, we are focused on helping to break down the barriers for women striving to fulfil their potential in developing regions and we are excited by our giving group’s collective mission to match Kindred’s support this year.”
