At MEDA, we know that business is a powerful and effective solution to poverty. It creates opportunities, uplifts communities, and drives the economy. Investing in entrepreneurs can transform lives and make a lasting impact.

When you invest in entrepreneurs

People find success in business, earn a decent living wage, and provide for their families.

Communities thrive from increased investment, the right tools, training, and business supports.

Economies are transformed, creating sustainable impact that remains long after our projects have closed.

For 70 years, MEDA has been harnessing the power of business to create sustainable and lasting solutions to poverty for entrepreneurs around the globe.

Our focus is on agriculture, creating and sustaining decent work for people in the Global South.

Why agriculture?

  • Three-quarters of workers in low-income countries are in vulnerable employment, and most people living in poverty work in the agricultural sector.
  • Successful farming as a business creates better lives.
  • Moving from unpaid labor to profitable business farming is a viable and effective solution to ending poverty in rural communities.

As an international economic development organization, MEDA creates business solutions to poverty.

Our organization began 70 years ago as an association of Mennonite businesspeople who believed in investing in other entrepreneurs. Today, we welcome all who share our values and want to join us in our mission.

Our focus is on agri-food market systems, with a goal to create or sustain decent work for 500,000 people in the Global South by the year 2030, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We achieve this through partnerships, a north/south shift, and a focus on agri-food.

At MEDA, we believe that people and communities can transcend poverty through respected work opportunities and by improving existing jobs.

“I thank MEDA for making my dream come true, and I encourage young people to get involved in agriculture for their community”
