At MEDA, we're in business for good - investing in entrepreneurs in agriculture around the globe so that

People can find success in business, earn a decent living wage, and provide for their families.

Communities can thrive from increased investment, the right tools, training and business supports.

Economies can be transformed to create lasting, sustainable impact that remains long after our projects have closed.

Why?

  • Because three quarters of workers in low-income countries are in vulnerable employment.
  • Because most of those living in poverty work in the agricultural sector.
  • Because successful farming as a business creates better lives.
  • Because moving from unpaid labor to profitable business farming is a viable and effective solution to ending poverty in rural communities.

MEDA is an international economic development organization that creates business solutions to poverty.

The organization began 70 years ago as an association of Mennonite businesspeople who believed they were called to be faithful in generously sharing their abilities and resources – entrepreneurs called to invest in other entrepreneurs.

Continuing in that Christian tradition, we welcome all who share our values and want to join us in our mission.

People and communities can transcend poverty through respected work opportunities and by improving existing jobs.

Our focus is in agri-food market systems with a goal to create or sustain decent work for 500,000 people in the Global South by the year 2030, contributing to the elimination of poverty and the advancement of equality by aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
