Senegal has experienced strong economic growth from 2014-2018, with the services sector contributing the most to the country’s GDP. Agriculture remains the strongest sector of Senegal’s economy and economic expansion in the country has been driven by private sector investments, including, oil, energy, agriculture, and IT. Despite the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, the Senegalese economy is expected to rebound to an impressive 5% growth per year, driven by a boom in the agricultural sector.
Senegal is a new country for MEDA. Recently, MEDA and partners are supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the agribusiness industry in four southern regions of Senegal. MEDA’s goal is to sustain and increase the productivity of producers in these regions and improve their resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
