Ghana’s economy is robust and dynamic, with 52% of its workforce involved in agriculture and comprising 54% of the country’s GDP. Ghana’s agricultural sector produces a variety of crops, ranging from cocoa, oil palm, coffee, rubber, cotton, tobacco, and rice. Although Ghana has diversified their agricultural exports, rice remains an important crop throughout the country. Ghana’s economy experienced strong growth in 2019 and is one of the most stable and prosperous countries in the continent of Africa.
By 2027, MEDA’s vision is that at least 20,000 women and youth in Northern Ghana have access to or are engaged in decent work opportunities in the agri-food market systems. To materialize this vision, MEDA and its partners will articulate their interventions around three key domains of change: strengthening the commercial agri-food sector, especially for women and youth MSMEs, strengthening the enabling environment for equitable, sustainable growth, especially for women and youth MSMEs in the agri-food sector and Improving the participation of women and youth in socio-economic life (valuing their role, contributions and rights).
“I am so grateful to the FEATS project and Lucky Star Farms for the opportunity. Thanks to them, I can now call myself an employee, and can generate income to meet most of my personal needs. My husband is very proud of me and has a renewed sense of respect for me”
