The excitement of bringing your vision to life, the satisfaction of creating jobs, and the hope of a better future for you and your community. But for millions of entrepreneurs in the global south, this dream is often shattered by harsh realities: limited access to capital, weak market systems, and restrictive cultural norms that discriminate against women and youth.
Your gift provides entrepreneurs with access to critical resources like capital, business development support, and technology to ensure they can turn their business dreams into reality.
Right now, the Women’s Empowerment for Central America (WE4CA) project, a partnership between MEDA, Pro Mujer, and Wakami, is working to create opportunity for entrepreneurs in Guatemala. The project aims to break down the barriers that prevent women and youth from contributing fully to the economy and supports them in building thriving businesses that create jobs, spur economic growth and transform communities.
Despite recent gains, poverty and inequality remain high with 60% of the population living in poverty and indigenous communities disproportionately affected.
Women’s economic empowerment is critical for Guatemala’s continued economic progress and reducing poverty and inequality. Because when women are empowered, they can generate income, create jobs, and contribute to the economic growth of their communities. Economic activity that has a multiplier effect, benefiting not only women but also their families, their communities, and the wider economy.
By supporting women-led businesses and improving access to financial services and resources, we can create a more equitable and prosperous world for all.
