About Peru
- 2.2 million people living in poverty on less than $1.25 a day
- 60% live in remote rural areas with limited access to agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers and simple equipment to increase productivity and incomes
Small farmers and rural enterprises in Peru can rise out of poverty, but they need better access to affordable agricultural equipment. MEDA's new Techno-Links project will help suppliers reach more small farmers living in remote areas of the country and help them adopt new technology for better yields.
Origins: MEDA's work in Peru began in 1999 when it founded the MEDA Consulting Group Peru, which strove to provide consulting, training and technical assistance to small and medium enterprises in rural and urban areas of Peru. Over the past 10 years, MEDA Peru has also developed expertise in projects focused on the intersection of business and the environment. In 2011, the office was transformed into a Peruvian NGO named MDA.
