“Modern Competitiveness and Traditional Values”

Tom Wolf is Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Wolf Organization, a six-generation family company based in York, Pennsylvania. Tom will describe his recent efforts to transform Wolf to compete in the fast-changing global economy. The Wolf Organization sources and distributes building materials in eastern United States with 240 employees. During 2007 – 2008 Tom served as Secretary of Revenue for the State of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of London and has a PhD degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tom was a Peace Corps volunteer in India during the 1970s.

"From Kalona to Kabul and Beyond: A journey from an Amish community to global economic development."

Joyce Bontrager Lehman, Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will draw on her life experiences in a presentation about global financial services for the poor. Joyce joined the Gates Foundation in 2008 after ten years’ experience working in the global microfinance sector on short or long term assignments in more than 25 countries. Prior to her work in international economic development she had a private practice as a Certified Public Accountant and taught university level business courses. Joyce is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University and received a Master’s Degree from the Bentley Graduate School of Management  She served on the MEDA Board for three years from 1997 to 1999 and was a staff member from 1999 to 2005.

“Enterprises Impacting Social Needs: Addressing human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, climate change and education”

Kim Tan is the Chairman of SpringHill Management Ltd, a venture capital fund management company specializing in life sciences and social venture capital investing. Kim, who lives in the United Kingdom, is a director of a number of listed and private biotech, pharmaceutical and investment companies in the UK, USA, India, Malaysia and South Africa. He is a co-founder of the Transformational Business Network (UK) and is the co-author of Fighting Poverty through Enterprise. He has a PhD in biochemistry and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He was conferred the honorary title ‘Dato’ by the Penang State Government in Malaysia where he was born.

“A Faith that Shapes Enduring Values”

Ervin Stutzman, Executive Director of Mennonite Church USA, will address the important connection between strong faith and good business practices. Christian faith has shaped the values of some of the world’s most successful businesses. Ervin is a former vice president and seminary dean at Eastern Mennonite University and is a former moderator of Mennonite Church USA and of Lancaster Mennonite Conference. Ervin was born into an Amish home in Iowa and his father was an entrepreneur. Ervin has an M.A. in religion from Eastern Mennonite Seminary, and Ph.D. in communication from Temple University. He is the author of several books including the recently released From Nonresistance to Justice: The Transformation of Mennonite Church Peace Rhetoric, 1908-2008.
