Ten Thousand Villages share in celebration of women's hope

Ann Gordon of MEDA was a featured speaker at a recent event held in collaboration with Ten Thousand Villages. Women's Stories – Women's Hope: An International Celebration, held March 27 in Kitchener, ON, marked the successes of women in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Ann spoke about how the themes of respect, trust and hope relate directly to the work she does in both Afghanistan and Pakistan with women entrepreneurs. Telling the stories of project clients Marzia, Sarvanaz and Hameeda, Ann recalled how these brave, bold women have established successful businesses that have increased their family incomes, as well as achieving more respect, trust and hope for the future.
In addition to showcasing Indian dancers and offering a variety of fair trade foods to sample, the event featured a presentation by fair trade activist and speaker Roopa Mehta, executive director of the Indian fair trade producer group SASHA. SASHA employs more than 5,000 artisans in over 100 workshops, the majority of whom are women.
