Building stronger communities

Welcome to 2010!

A new year, a new decade … and countless new opportunities to help hard-working people around the world pull themselves out of poverty … renewing hope, restoring dignity and building stronger communities.

For MEDA's work, two recurring themes arise – women and youth. MEDA has been making considerable inroads in both these areas over the past few years with our work in Afghanistan and Pakistan – two countries where being a woman can be very challenging – and now in Egypt and Morocco, two countries that illustrate the growing global problem of youth unemployment.

It is a privilege to be entrusted with this work by our supporters. We will continue to share the success stories of our clients here in MEDAzine. We hope they will reaffirm your decision to support MEDA and inspire your continuing involvement. We are very grateful for your support and involvement and welcome your feedback.

MEDA was one of four finalists in the 2009 Voluntary Sector Reporting Awards in our size category. The awards, which are co-sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada, and Queen’s School of Business, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, recognize excellence in financial reporting.

MEDA was nominated for its annual report and financial statements. Each finalist received a plaque at an awards luncheon held Nov. 20 in Toronto.
