Zambian farmer realizes dream with MEDA's help

MEDA is helping subsistence farmers in Zambia access irrigation tools that will help increase crop yields and create hope for a better future. Your generous contributions to the Prosperity Through Innovation project, through our direct mail fundraising campaign last spring, are having a real impact on people’s lives in Zambia – a country where farmers battle parched land and few resources to grow enough food to feed their families, let alone have a surplus to sell.
Oswald Mweemba managed to realize a long-standing dream to build a shop and buy a bicycle from the income he made from an irrigated crop harvest. Although he had been farming for years, the income he made from irrigated crops using a treadle pump was a big stepping stone for success in his household.
"That little machine impressed me a lot; it doubled my production level in just one irrigation season. Before I started using a treadle pump, my total sales from vegetables in each season were about $115; but in one year, I managed to increase my sales by $285. That is a great change."
Despite buying a bicycle and building a shop, Oswald had enough money left over to reinvest in his farm.
You can still help some of the 3,000 Zambian farmers like Oswald that MEDA is reaching through this project – and every dollar you give today is multiplied in impact seven times! Go to: http://www.meda.org/Donate/TheMEDAStore.html
