MEDA's board in profile: Dave Guenther, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Dave GuentherDay job: Whether it's the Superbowl, Grand Prix or World Cup, you can count on Dave Guenther to be in-the-know about global sporting events. He is president of Roadtrips Inc., which creates luxury travel packages to unique experiences around the world, specializing in trips to major international sporting events. He and his family recently spent several months in South Africa, partly connected with the World Cup of Soccer to be held there in 2010, and partly as a bit of a sabbatical and family time.

What he likes about MEDA: "Understanding how to connect my faith with my business life is integral," says Dave, who is also very excited about MEDA's business solutions to alleviate poverty. "I really feel that as a businessperson it's part of my mission to do that. MEDA is one of the best ways for us to bring justice and to build the kingdom by helping people develop a sustainable livelihood, provide for their families and provide employment in their communities, which also makes people productive members of the church. All those things come together for me in MEDA."

Most fun with MEDA: "I think the people of MEDA make it the most fun. There are a lot of fascinating people with fascinating business stories, and who are very creative in how they connect their faith and their work." A highlight was a board tour to Tanzania, on which he was accompanied by his wife, Liesa, and three sons – Josh, 12, and twins Sam and Matt, 10. "We incorporated that as part of an around-the-world tour that's got to stick out as the most fun I've had." The Guenthers are fixtures at MEDA's annual convention, which even the children enjoy. "We already have our airline tickets to the San Jose convention," he says.

Hobbies: Besides golf, Dave loves to travel with his family as they mix work with exploring the world. "Travel is one of the best types of education, really eye-opening for people. My kids' passports are almost full."
