Serving God from where I am
A small grassroots effort by a group of California women trying to lose weight has resulted in a net gain for MEDA. Cindi Peterson started Women Against Global Hunger (WAGH) to help end hunger through charitable donations and to encourage women to pursue healthy eating and physical activity to promote sustainable living.
But Cindi also had a more fervent wish. "I started this group from the desire in my heart to serve God from where I am, impacting the poor in the world through a home-grown effort."

In 2008, the small band of women – about 5-8 throughout the year – were able to reach their goal of donating $1,000 to MEDA's Through the Garden Gate project in Afghanistan. TTGG helps home-bound rural women increase their incomes and feed their families by growing a kitchen garden. MEDA provides technical expertise and access to credit to help these women become successful entrepreneurs and gain respect within their households and in their communities.
"Through the Garden Gate is a perfect fit for WAGH," says Cindi. "We have been thrilled by the reports from the project and the stories shared by the women, and are so pleased to be contributing. I am very proud of our grassroots effort to change for the better and impact the world in our small but meaningful way."
