Convention-goers may have noticed the attractive hand-embroidered table overlays at the Friday evening plenary session. MEDA partnered with Kaarvan Crafts to bring these items from Pakistan. Kaarvan Crafts is a key facilitating partner in the embellished fabric sector for MEDA's new Pathways & Pursestrings project in Pakistan.
The Lahore-based foundation has now been short-listed for the Young Social Enterprise Initiative program 2008, a highly competitive process culminating in a final presentation at YSEI headquarters in Malaysia.
The achievement enables Kaarvan to access seed funding up to $5,000 in the initial stage, as well as:
mentoring support to achieve venture milestones, social impact indicators and business plan development; available knowledge, materials and expert support from YSEI partners; and, supportive networks through the mentoring process or YSEI events.
Kaarvan Crafts Foundation is a not-for-profit organization in Pakistan providing fair trade business and marketing services to thousands of women living in low-income communities. Kaarvan is “a process of moving together and trading in fair and equitable manner” – representative of the program objectives.
