Some of the faces and places of MEDA

Back in March, MEDAzine put a challenge to MEDA staff worldwide to participate in a new contest, MEDA Moment in Time.

The objective was to capture a moment in their work life, wherever that may be, on May 7, 2008 at 10am local time.

Naturally, here at MEDA we weren't offering any big (or small) cash prize, only some recognition: We promised that the best entries would appear in a special edition of MEDAzine, to give you, our dear readers and supporters, a glimpse of life at MEDA and those who work in economic development in aid of the poor around the world.

We hope you enjoy this – especially the lighter moments!

The MEDA Bucks are that way!

Bob Kroeker, director of member relations, and president Allan Sauder are heading off in the rain to see another MEDA donor after meeting with MEDA member Kevin Lambright. With fuel prices so high, they resorted to a more basic mode of travel. Hey, hay is cheaper than gasoline! Photo taken in Shipshewana, Indiana, at Kevin Lambright's Auction and Public Market facility, Trading Place.

Intern checks in

9:58am local time - power failure.

9:59am local time - water failure.

10:00am local time - A good flash bulb, some subtle MEDA product placement, plus exact location demonstrated on map behind. Nicaragua intern Catherine Tegelberg earns bonus points for sending her photo in so quickly despite "obvious woeful working conditions."

When is a bed not a bed?

... When it's a desk. At his "desk" in an Indian hotel room, Bill Harrington completes a training program on corporate governance to deliver to senior managers of 10 microfinance institutions the following week.
