Ken Hochstetler, Souderton, Pa., MEDA treasurer, member of Microvest board

Day job: Executive vice president of Univest Corp., an integrated financial solutions provider (banking, insurance, investments) in Souderton, Pa.; president of Univest Investments and Univest Insurance.
“I’m a finance guy by education, but a sales and people person by personality,” says Ken. Indeed, on the MEDA board he’s often a source of bounce and fun while getting the routine board work done. “I don’t see those as mutually exclusive,” he says.
He enjoys working at “board process” because he knows there’s a “greater good” coming out of MEDA’s mission. “It’s a chance to bring my business skill set to the table. None of us has everything it takes, and it’s great to work with others, collectively, at due process, making good decisions to support MEDA’s work. I’ve had a chance to meet interesting, articulate people from across the Mennonite Church, both board and staff. I’ve been enriched by the kind of people I’ve had a chance to work beside.”
Most fun? “Last year’s board tour to Tanzania. When I came on the board, I was the youngest (in my 30s), and with a young family I was not able to go on the first couple of international tours. If I have any regrets at all, it’s that we didn’t take our kids out of school last year to go along to Tanzania.”
