Garrett Gingerich lives in Goshen, Indiana and just graduated in May
from Goshen College with a business major and multimedia communications
minor. He also just launched his own business - 3epho Design, a web
design and marketing business.
I was introduced to MEDA my junior year of college. The local Michiana
chapter was looking for a new graphic designer for their chapter
newsletter and I got involved. I'm glad I did. Since that time I've been
doing graphic design work for the chapter and through the business
department at Goshen College I was able to attend the MEDA convention in
Tampa Bay.
One of my fondest memories from the conference was MEDA's student case
competition. This was the first year they ran the competition and it
really got us students involved and gave us something to look forward
to. We were given time before the conference to develop marketing
material and a website for a company. I was on a team that won - it was
such a great feeling.
We worked together in the weeks leading up to convention and presented
our ideas for judges including the owners of the company based out of
Miami, Florida. It was a great opportunity and I'm still doing work for
that same company today.
I was surprised at how fun convention was. I had a great time meeting
new people. I was also surprised at how friendly people were and how
open they were to me. I had a badge on my shirt identifying me as a
student and people came up to me with their business cards asking me to
call them after college. I certainly wasn't expecting that.
I also enjoyed the plenary speakers - especially Keith Reinhard. He was
one of the best speakers I've ever heard. What he said really stuck with
me. But just learning more about MEDA as an organization was very
special to me starting out in the business world - I learned what it
means to be a Christian business man.
The benefit of students attending convention is getting them tapped into
MEDA. I learned what MEDA is doing around the world and convention
really makes me want to be a part of it. I'll probably be involved for a
good long time. I'm glad I had the chance to be introduced to MEDA.
