Coming to MEDA is new and exciting. For 13 years I've worked in
communications with in the health care sector, where I've done a wide
range of publications, media relations and issues management. In the
hospital setting there are a lot of pressing issues that come up at any
given time that force you to act quickly. At MEDA, I look forward to
focusing my attention on specific projects, creating strategies and
doing the best possible job.
I'm excited about being involved in MEDA on a number of levels. First of
all, I really like the work of MEDA and their philosophy - a hand up
instead of a handout. I also have a background in anthropology, so
getting involved in different cultures is very exciting for me. I'm
always interested in learning more about other countries and how they
live and how people are impacted by that. It makes you think about the
values and beliefs that you hold - both challenging them and affirming
them.
But most exciting is the opportunity to come into a new position and
create growth. It's not prescriptive but very organic and something I
can develop. There are many challenges ahead - a new job, organization,
a new town, a new field of work. The learning curve will be big, but
with my strong background in strategic communication, I'm confident I
can meet every challenge.
I've been incredibly impressed by everyone I've met in my first week.
MEDA is made up of a great group of people where everyone's working to
the same end. I look forward to working together for that common goal.
