MEDA and CIDA are exploring a new pilot project aimed at creating a deeper understanding of Afghanistan and its challenges among Canadians. Initially scheduled for "kick off" in December, the implementation is now anticipated to happen in January. Stay tuned for the launch date!
The Rebuilding Afghanistan Campaign, CIDA’s (Canadian International Development Agency) new matching fund, is designed to encourage Canadians to become actively engaged by donating to Afghan entrepreneurs in MEDA’s microfinance program through MEDA Trust.
CIDA will match those donations one to one, allowing Canadians to see their contribution double in value and creating an increased incentive to give, especially during the holiday season.
MEDA Trust visitors will learn how Afghan women are being empowered to earn a livelihood through access to microfinance. In addition to providing financial support to Afghan micro-entrepreneurs and engaging Canadian citizens in the rebuilding process in Afghanistan, the funds will strengthen local microfinance institutions.
More than $1 million could be raised over three years through MEDA Trust that, when combined with the matching contribution from CIDA, will create a $2+ million capital fund that will be invested in partner MFIs in Afghanistan.
