FULL--Saturday, November 4 - Walking Tour of Historic Chinatown
12:15 – 4:00 p.m. $119 CAD, Dim Sum lunch included
An informative and fun walking tour that explores the history and culture of Vancouver's Chinatown. A National Historic Site and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Vancouver, Chinatown offers culture, history, architecture, gastronomy, and more. Explore the streetscape, visit century-old heritage buildings, meet Chinese elders who lived through the Head Tax and Exclusion Act, sample Chinese pastries, learn how to properly steep tea. Judy Lam Maxwell specializes in the history of the Chinese in Canada and Chinatowns around the world. She completed an M.A. in History from the University of British Columbia, and a Certificate through the Centre for the Study of Historical Consciousness at UBC’s Faculty of Education. Judy enjoys teaching, research and writing, and being a Chinatown educator through her Historical Chinatown Tours. Judy aims to raise money for restoration of heritage buildings, while educating participants about a difficult past in a now-revitalized neighborhood. She also wants to take participants into various unique cultural and modern businesses to bring attention to their value, products, and function in the community.
Tour is limited to 15 participants and will require walking throughout this unique neighborhood. Tour includes a traditional Dim Sum lunch at a local restaurant with Judy.
