It’s a novel way to raise funds, but MEDA’s spunky president, Allan Sauder, is up to it. From July 4 to 17 he and other MEDA staff and members plan to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise $250,000 for MEDA. The ascent up the Lemosho Route involves 10 days of climbing through five ecosystems, starting in rainforest, then Alpine desert and ending beside a glacier. Kilimanjaro is not a technical climb requiring ropes and ladders, and can be done by reasonably fit people with a dose of perseverance. The climb will be led by Tusker Trails, an experienced expedition company with medically trained guides, American-trained chefs and eager porters.
