Blessed opportunity
War and chaos uprooted Malalai as her family moved to a new province to save their lives. Now 36, and married with five children, she returned home to rebuild her life. But her husband could not find work. It was a life of poverty and scarcity.
“But the time has come for us to be fortunate once again,” she says, when MEDA came to her village and she had the chance to learn how to grow a garden.
“Hopes arose in my heart when I learned about WWIMFI and was lucky to get a loan.
“I bought tools, seeds and plants to cultivate a garden. It was exciting to have something to do, and we were happy to find a means of earning a living.
| “Later, I got another loan to buy more plants. It’s enjoyable to work on the land. I get great satisfaction from seeing our garden grow and taking our produce to market. “After a few months, when our first crops and income came in, we began to feel more secure. Now we’re happy and successful, and our children are in school. We have not only three meals a day, but good food. I’m thankful for such a blessed opportunity.” |
