MEDA Tanzania manages two different but closely related projects: The Tanzania National Voucher Scheme (TNVS) and the Under Five Catch up Campaign. The goal of both projects is to increase the coverage and use of insecticide treated [mosquito bed] nets (ITNs) among specific target groups (pregnant women and children under five, the population most at-risk for malarial mortality and morbidity. MEDA’s work focuses on logistics and the delivery of ITNs to each target group. In order to achieve its goals, MEDA uses a public-private partnership (PPP) which strives to build a sustainable private sector distribution network.
Position Summary:
The goal of this position will be to collect and disseminate information on MEDA Tanzania’s projects to various stakeholders, donors, industry peers and partners. The need for more information arises out of MEDA/Tanzania’s growth and expansion of opportunities.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Country Manager, the Intern will be responsible for two areas:
Business Development (50%):
- Explore new project and funding opportunities.
- Write, coordinate and submitt new project concept ideas and proposals.
- Improve and develop current business operations.
Communications (50%):
- Oversee the creation and submission of various monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Create presentations for both internal and external use.
- Coordinate the preparation of various communications materials including posters, leaflets, brochures as well as project briefs and stories.
- Manage corporate accounts with wireless communications providers.
- Arrange for and host internal and international visitors.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Communications, Political Science, International Economic Development or related field
- Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written. Accomplished in using Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Possesses analytical skills and is comfortable with numbers, calculations and databases.
- Experience or familiarity with project management or execution
- Excellent organization, planning and time management skills
- Independent, organized, self-directed and highly motivated with the ability to problem solve
- Strong interest in international travel and cross-cultural experiences; flexible and able to adapt to different environments and cultures
- Appreciation and support of MEDA’s faith, values and goals
Internship Details:
This is an 8 month assignment in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. All direct expenses are covered including items such as: round-trip travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, housing, food, health insurance. MEDA does not require interns to contribute any money toward the internship. Please note: The housing and living allowance is modest, and designed to provide enough money for safe and comfortable living conditions. Participants should not expect to have savings accumulated from the living allowance at the end of the assignment.
An orientation week will be scheduled in Waterloo, Ontario and the 8 month assignment will begin directly after this session. There is some flexibility in the start date and the duration of the assignment.

Position Summary:
The goal of this internship will be to provide a link between MEDA and the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW). Under the direction of MEDA, the intern will assist the MOHSW with proposal writing and help integrate work being conducted by existing contractors such as MEDA into its own work process. The work of this intern better enable the MOHSW to coordinate and supervise current initiatives and plan for future projects.
Job Description:
The specific tasks for the intern will include:
- Collect and compile reports for the MOHSW on the work being conducted by contractors, including challenges and areas of concern.
- Analyze Tanzanian health care data
- Write proposals for MOHSW that will further the mission of the ministry to care for the public health of the country
- Collect, edit and publish news stories for publication.
Qualifications:- University degree in Communications, Political Science, International Economic Development or related field
- Excellent research, analytical, writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience or familiarity with proposal and report writing
- Independent, self-directed and highly motivated

MEDA/Tanzania is developing IT initiatives in mobile phones and GPS/GIS, and wishes to do so with PDAs. Applications include an electronic voucher, mapping and survey data collection. The goal of this position will be to support information technology initiatives within the Tanzania country program.
Job Description:

- Research, develop and implement an SMS voucher for ITN distribution
- Develop GPS and GIS as a tool to map net usage and other monitoring and evaluation measurements
- Develop PDAs as a tool for free net mass campaigns, including registration, tracking and security, net distribution and monitoring and evaluation
- Research, develop and implement systems of collecting, submitting, storing and reporting information using mobile phone, SMS and online forms
Qualifications:- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Excellent computer or engineering application skills
- Experience or familiarity with project management
- Independent, organized, self-directed and highly motivated
- Strong interest in international travel and cross-cultural experiences; flexible and able to adapt to different environments and cultures

Member Engagement Associate – Lancaster, PAMember Engagement (ME) encourages MEDA members to draw on their faith as they work in business and the professions – serving as God’s agents of caring, sustaining and transforming activity in the world. ME produces quality products for members, strengthens and expands MEDA’s membership base, provides support and tools to MEDA chapters and maintains MEDA’s visibility with Anabaptist colleges and denominations.
Project Description:
The internship is to assist MEDA’s Member Engagement department with convention planning and developing engagement opportunities for younger members. The intern will work closely with MEDA’s Member Engagement Coordinator and Vice President for Member Engagement in Lancaster, PA. The intern will be located at MEDA’s Lancaster, PA office.
Job Description:
• Assist with convention planning and logistics, in areas such as:
• Developing and coordinating the “Student case competition”
• Developing activities for students (welcome session and others)
• Developing and arranging seminars geared to younger members
• Assist with development of a tour for students and/or younger members
• Develop a blog about poverty, economic development and MEDA
• Assist in developing new ways to connect to business student s and younger members
• Research business student activities on campus
• Develop proposal for new ways people can get involved with MEDA
• Speak at colleges about MEDA
Qualifications:
• University degree or College degree. Studies in Business Administration preferred.
• Experience in non-profit administration an asset
• Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
• Efficiency in organizing and prioritizing several tasks at once and able to manage details
• Independent, self-directed and highly motivated
• Appreciation and support of MEDA’s faith, values and goals
