May

May 15, 6:30 p.m. - Michiana MEDA international dinner and annual business meeting. Speakers: George and Barbara Smucker. As members of the 2007 MEDA tour, the Smuckers traveled to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and will be speaking about the MEDA projects underway in those countries. The meeting will include a traditional Central Asian meal at North Goshen Mennonite Church. RSVP by Monday, May 1, by phoning 87-RSVP-MEDA, emailing reservations@michianameda.org, or filling out the online RSVP form. Meal and program costs are $15 for members, $20 for non members, and $5 for students and are payable online via PayPal or at the event.

May 22, 5:30pm—Lancaster Chapter Spring tour at Herr Foods. Evening includes tour, buffet supper, video and presentation by Jim S. Herr. The cost is $20 per person , payable at the door. Directions: Herr Foods is located at 20 Herr Drive in Nottingham, PA. From Lancaster, take 222 South. Pick up Route 272 South. At Wakefield, remain on 272 South to Nottingham. May 28, 7:00am—Saskatoon Chapter’s MEDAffinity breakfast. Fire them up instead of Firing. Grant Unrau, Stun Marketing. Training new staff is costly and time consuming. June 7, 8:00amto 10:00am—“Succeeding on a Path Less Traveled” NE Ohio MEDA Chapter meeting with Galen Lehman, Lehman’s in Kidron. Galen is the president and second generation owner of Lehman’s in Kidron, Ohio. Founded in 1955, Lehman’s has been adept at capitalizing on unusual customer demands. Lehman’s was the last American manufacturer of ice boxes and still holds the worldwide record for sales of Maytag wringer washing machines. They sell more gas refrigerators and wood cookstoves than anyone in North America. Galen attended Bluffton College and has worked at Lehman’s for 30 years. He has worked in every department, specializing in marketing and mail order operations. He lives on a working farm with his wife, Sherri, and teenage children, Matthew and Lindsay. June 28, 8:30am—NW Ohio: A special opportunity to tour the Sauder Mfg. Stryker chair factory, will be a part of the local MEDA and ASSETS/Toledo spring meeting. This event is open to all. Light refreshments will be served. This is your opportunity to see the inside workings of this interesting production facility, and to learn more about area MEDA members in their local work places. Also MEDA has an outreach program fostering business starts ups in central city of Toledo through ASSETS and you can meet some of these new business owners. The event should conclude by 11:30am.
