Triple Bottom Line Approach
All of our investment decisions are based on financial, social and environmental returns to our partners and investors.
Classic Venture Capital Approach
IFD uses a classic venture capital approach built on three steps. The first step is to utilize donations to fund research and development in the design and testing of innovative investment tools that can best attract capital as an effective business solution to poverty. The second step is to attract sources of venture capital to bring these new ideas into reality. The third step is to leverage these successful ideas by assisting private equity and commercial capital to access these new investment tools.
Microfinance as a Diversification Tool
MEDA microfinance investments are a great diversification tool: Studies show that the return and risk profile of microfinance institutions tends to be low or negatively correlated with North American (NYSE, TSX) and World (MSCI) equity and debt markets.
Microfinance as a Tool to End Poverty
See your investment make a lasting impact. Your investment provides much-needed capital to help grow microfinance institutions that on-lend to micro and small entrepreneurs, creating new opportunities, new jobs and improvements in the living standards in these communities. For every million dollars loaned to a microfinance institution, you are helping between 2,000 and 6,000 families in developing economies.

MEDA has pioneered social investing since its inception in 1953. It now has offices around the world and provides value-added services in product-marketing linkages, microfinance consulting and investments in successful organizations.
